In his high school years he developed a passion for music deeply impressed by the Beatles, Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan. After the drum he learned to play the guitar and founded amateur music groups with his friends. Besides Ortaçgil’s own compositions they were performing covers from such songs as “House of the Rising Sun” and “ I Dig Rock’n Roll Music” and giving concerts for students. In the ensuing years he went towards making a serene and plain music with his guitar. When he was studying Chemistry in the university he released his first 45’s record “Anlamsız/Yüzünü Dönme Küçük Kız” and was selected “The Promising Musician of the Year” in the survey of Hey magazine. By the 1980’s he met Fikret Kızılok and they founded the Çekirdek Art Center which became a performance and recording house for various musicians. In 1984 he released his first LP solo album “Rüzgâra Söylenen Şarkılar” in which he played with Erkan Oğur and Yaz Baltacıgil and a few years later he released the album “Biz Şarkılarımızı” with Fikret Kızılok. He collaborated with precious musicians and groups such as Onno Tunç, Sezen Aksu, Yeni Türkü, Gürol Ağırbaş, Erkan Oğur, Cem Aksel, Leman Sam and many others. With his distinctive music style, compositions and lyrics he broke a fresh ground in Turkish pop music. He has released seven solo studio albums, seven collective albums and took part in many other ones. His last album “Sen” (You) was released in 2010 with the label of Ada Music.
